Engineering UK’s annual flagship reportEngineering UK: the state of engineering 2013was launched on 3rd December. It projects that engineering companies will have 2.74 million job openings from 2010 to 2020, and of these approximately 87,000 per year will require people with degree qualifications. Currently the UK produces only 46,000 engineering graduates each year. It calls for the need to double the number of young people studying GCSE physics as part of triple science, but also highlights a shortage of specialist school teachers in physics.
